Patricia Agnes Kearney

Patricia Agnes Kearney, 87 of Cottonwood, AZ passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013 in Cottonwood. She was born September 8, 1925 in El Paso, Illinois, the daughter of Daniel Celestine Kearney and Mary Agnes O\u0027Rourke Mrs. Kearney attended Trinity Grade School 1939, Trinity High School 1943, Illinois State Normal University 1944-1945, Illinois Wesleyan University, 1961, where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts. She went on to Ohio University where in 1963; she received her Master of Fine Arts in Painting She was a Full Professor of Art at Edinboro University in Edinboro, Pennsylvania starting in 1969 for 18 years. Prior to her teaching position, worked in real estate for 12 years in Illinois and was a Docent at the Yale Art Gallery at Yale University in New Haven Connecticut. While in Pennsylvania, Mrs. Kearney participated in 15 solo art exhibitions and 23 group invitationals. Her work was accepted in over 50 exhibitions from coast to coast. She was awarded with Honorable Mentions, Best of Shows, Special Merits, and Purchase Awards. After retirement she moved to Cottonwood, AZ, and held solo art exhibits at Cottonwood City Hall, 2005, and the Sedona Library in 2008. Currently the Erie Art Museum in Erie, Pennsylvania, has several artworks of hers as part of their permanent collection. Mrs. Kearney traveled abroad, especially to such exotic locations as China, Egypt, and Turkey. She also studied and collected the art of diverse cultures. She was also an avid promoter of animal rescue. Her biggest interest was cats and she had a multitude of feline pets throughout her whole life. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Daniel (Bud), and four sisters, Mary, Margaret, Dorothy, and Ann. Even though she never married, she has numerous nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own children. A memorial service will be announced.
