Sylvia A. Oates

Sylvia A. Morris Oates, of Cottonwood, passed away February 2, 2016. She was born October 17, 1927 in Isley, Kentucky, the daughter of Lee Allen Morris and Mary Isabel Morgan. She was a graduate of Nortonville High School. Mrs. Oates volunteered for the Red Cross for years. She was a member of the Verde Baptist Church. Her hobbies included sewing, reading, sports and she was an avid bowler. Her husband, William M. Oates preceded her in death. She is survived by a son, Philip M. Oates (Gina) of Cottonwood; daughters, Margaret Black-Mattila of Tennessee, Liz Bishop of Cottonwood, Patricia Oates Romney (Jerry) of Nevada and Janet Oates Havens Brode (Tim) of Cottonwood; sisters Edith Morris Teague of Kentucky and Lois Melodean Morris Mallrich of Florida; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. A service in her memory will be held on Saturday, February 6 in the Westcott Funeral Home at 3 PM.
