Robert “Bob” Brown Gillies Jr., beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 19, 2026, in Tempe, Arizona.

Bob was born in Denver, Colorado, on September 12, 1937. He graduated from Englewood High School in 1955 and went on to attend Colorado State University in Fort Collins, where he earned a degree in Forestry with an emphasis in Recreation Management.

Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army for three years, followed by three years of Reserve service. He received an early release honorable discharge.

Bob devoted 35 years of his career to the U.S. Forest Service, where he was respected for his knowledge, fairness, and wise guidance. He served as District Ranger for both the Beaver Creek and Sedona Ranger Districts for 23 years. Throughout his career, Bob made a lasting impact on both his colleagues and the communities he served.

Bob had a deep love for the great outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time outside—whether exploring the outdoors or simply relaxing on his front or back patio. But above all, Bob loved his family. He was incredibly proud of them and cherished family gatherings. His greatest joy was simply being together with the people he loved.

Bob was married to the love of his life, Elvia, for 55 years until her passing in 2020. Together, they built a loving family and a lifetime of memories.

Bob will be deeply missed by his faithful dog, Turk; his children, Paul, Ben (Kelly), and Linda (Steve); his 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He will also be remembered with love by the many friends, colleagues, and family members whose lives he touched throughout his 89 years.

Bob’s legacy lives on in the family he loved so dearly, the people he guided throughout his career, and the many memories shared around family gatherings and time spent together.
