Robert L. Ackerman

August 1, 1942 — September 13, 2020

Robert L Ackerman, 78, of Cottonwood, died September 13, 2020 at his home. He was born
August 1, 1942 to Lloyd C. Ackerman and Esther A. Eggert Ackerman in Parkers Prairie,
Minnesota.
As a child Robert attended Country School and New York Mills High School receiving his
diploma. He then completed 2 years at Alec Tech and Staples Tech. He worked at a granite
quarry, managed a dairy farm, real estate and farmed for himself. He worked 10 years of wood
crafting.
Robert was highly creative in designing his own art, working in both wood and later metal. He
went back to school at the age of 40. He lost his leg at age 31 but still carried on a full life. He
served as deacon in the Lutheran Church. He later joined the Methodist Church.
He loved his miniature pony team which he broke to drive. He created metal yard art which he
gave to church bazaars and friends. He also loved to read western books.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Ester Ackerman, his brother Ralph
Ackerman; sister Elda Pikkaraine and grandson Jesse Schill. He is survived by his spouse of 38
years, Carol D. Ackerman of Cottonwood; his sons Terry Ackerman (Landa) of Piggott, AR and
Chris Schill (Tina) of Oak Creek Village, AZ; his daughters Kathryn Ackerman Heberle
(William) of Brainerd, MN and Paula Schill Anderdon (Doug) of Little Falls, MN; brother Ray
Ackerman (Cheryl, deceased) of New York Mills, MN; sisters Gladys of New York Mills, MN
and Deloris (LeRoy) of Milwaukee, WI; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at his home (120 N. Palo Verde Street, Cottonwood, AZ) on
Saturday, September 19, 2020 at 10:30 AM.
