Judge Richard Anderson, a faithful servant of God, went to meet his Creator and Redeemer on the Feast of the Visitation of Our Lady, May 31, 2025, at the age of 86. Born and raised in Flagstaff, Arizona, Richard carried the spirit of his hometown’s rugged beauty and close-knit community throughout his life. His 62-year marriage to his beloved Sandy was a testament to sacrificial love and steadfast fidelity; he was a shining example of what it means to be a Christian man. As a father to Fr. Tony Anderson, a Catholic priest, and Joe Anderson (wife Cindy), and grandfather to Haley and Samantha, he formed and guided his family with humor, common sense and grit, nurturing them in faith, virtue, and love. He rejoiced in them and in his cherished dogs and horses on his small horse property in Camp Verde. Few appreciated God’s creation as he did.
A pillar of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Parish in Camp Verde, Richard was deeply rooted in his Catholic faith. He embodied the virtues of charity, humility, and unwavering dedication to the sanctity of life and the protection of the innocent.
As a Yavapai County Superior Court Judge, Richard served with distinction for many years, earning respect for his commitment to justice — and compassion. His tenure on the bench was marked by thoughtful rulings that upheld moral truth and safeguarded the vulnerable, leaving a lasting legacy in the legal community and beyond. “Your honor” was an appropriate way to address this judge.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Sandy; his sons, Fr. Tony and Joe (Cindy); and his granddaughters, Haley and Samantha. His noble life, built on his relationship with Jesus, will shine eternally in their hearts and in the Yavapai County community he so faithfully served.
Funeral Visitation, Rosary and Mass will be held at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 781 Cliffs Pkwy, Camp Verde, AZ 86322 on Friday June 6, 2025 with Visitation and Rosary beginning at 0900 and Mass following at 0930. Burial at Clear Creek Cemetery in Camp Verde will take place directly following Mass at 1100am.
