Margaret Joan
Bain
Feb 9, 1942 — Jun 17, 2026
Margaret Joan Bain, “Jo” (84) passed from this life on Wednesday, 17 June 2026. She was born on Monday, 9 February 1942 in Tucson, Arizona to William Glenn Johnson & Margaret Ruth Edwards Johnson. She grew up in the Tucson area, and attended Catalina High School in Tucson.
She met Tommie E Bain at a “hamburger joint” called “Lotta Burger” in a day when teens hung out and enjoyed the company of other teens with the only electronics being the jukebox. They were introduced by a mutual Friend. They dated for about 3 years before getting married on 2 May 1959 in Tucson. They made their home in Tucson for the first years, Tommie was gone a lot as he served in the Navy. After about 10 years they moved to Tempe, Arizona where they lived for the next 23 years. In 1992, they moved to Clarkdale, Arizona and quickly made friends with all the neighbors.
Jo volunteered at the Elementary School at the end of their street in Tempe. She helped in the library, and helped children with reading. Jo loved books and was an avid reader. While she lived in Clarkdale, she always participated in the Summer Reading Program each year at the Clarkdale Library. She also spent many hours researching her ancestry in the local Family History center.
Backpacking was a favorite hobby when she was younger, enjoying extended trips to Death Valley, Monument Valley, Grand Canyon, Sycamore Canyon and several trips into the Superstition Mountains. Sometimes these trips lasted a week or more.
Jo was a dedicated vegetarian for the last 53 years.
Jo loved pets and through the years had adopted many older pets, who were each privileged to live out their remaining life in a loving home, being pampered by Jo & Tommie, and the neighbors. While they lived in Tempe, Tommie & Jo took “Pet CPR” classes, so that they could provide better care for these pets.
Jo is survived by her husband of 67 years; Tommie, one son: Tommie Glenn Bain, a sister: Carol King, a brother-in-law; Kenneth E Bain, several Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, along with lots of special friends and neighbors.
A special Thank You to all the neighbors & friends who have checked on her and Tommie, and helped out over the last few years.
A Memorial Gathering was held in the Clarkdale Park on a beautiful morning in June, stories and visiting were shared. Burial will be in the Cottonwood City Cemetery on Monday, 13 July at 10:00am, where there will be a graveside gathering for those wishing to attend.
