Hazel M
Rowland
Oct 14, 1935 — Aug 26, 2026
Hazel M. Rowland passed away peacefully August 26,2026 at her Christian Care apartment in Cottonwood, Arizona.
A native Arizonan, Hazel was born in Flagstaff on October 14, 1935, and graduated from Winslow High School in 1954. During her high school years, she worked at Hughes Drug Store as a soda jerk. Where she credited Mr. and Mrs. Hughes for instilling in her a strong foundation in cashiering, customer service, and ethical values that stayed with her throughout her life.
After graduating, Hazel went to work for the Mountain Bell Telephone Company in Flagstaff, where she met her late husband, Billy O. Rowland, who preceded her in death on March 16, 2013. Hazel went on to build a career with Valley National Bank spanning nearly twenty years, first in Camp Verde and then in Cottonwood, beginning in 1972.
Hazel was deeply involved in her community. She was a member of the Camp Verde Saddlebags, later known as the Side Saddlets, a precision drill team on horseback that performed with the Camp Verde Cavalry for Men. She was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and organized the local chapter of Soroptimist International, serving as its first president. After retiring from Valley National Bank, she joined the Quail Country Quilters guild, remaining an active member until her passing.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hazel served faithfully in the Relief Society and Primary organizations. She was especially cherished for her years of service as a Primary teacher, and she considered many of her former students to be like children of her own.
Hazel is survived by her son, Dean Rowland, and his wife, Karen (Jones) Rowland of Plumas Lake, CA; five grandsons, and seven great grandchildren. Bradly Rowland and his wife Tiffany, of Lincoln CA, with children Ava, Ashlynn, and Beckett; Brent Rowland and his wife Nyomy of Ogden, UT; Bryce Rowland and his wife Shally, of Bluffdale, UT with children Emery, Jocelynn, Ruby, and Aubree; Bryan Rowland of Maui, HI; and Brandon Rowland and his wife Meggan of Bushnell, FL.
