Francis Lamar "Frank" Mullins, 91 of Cottonwood, passed away on May 31, 2012. Frank was born on April 9, 1921 in Atlanta, Georgia. He attended Notre Dame University and joined the Navy in October 1940. He served his country as a Machinist Mate in some of the major naval battles in the South Pacific. He met his beloved wife, Norma Lewis of 67 years, on a blind date in 1942, while on liberty in Asbury Park, New Jersey. After the war, he settled in North Carolina and started his family working as a time clock and communications salesman/repairman. He moved his family to Middletown, New Jersey in the mid 1950s, as the business grew. He raised his children on the Jersey Shore, spending time at the beach with the family. He was a Past Commander of American Legion Post 24 in Asbury Park. In the late 1960s, Frank and his good friend, Ed Ryan, opened a "Carvel" ice cream store in Tinton Falls, New Jersey, which he ran until his retirement in 1980. Throughout his retirement, he traveled and golfed with his wife enjoying his senior years. He is preceded in death by his grandson, Joshua Mullins. He leaves behind his wife, Norma Lewis Mullins, two children, Cathy and her husband William Hawkins; Michael and his wife Shelly Mullins; 8 grand children and 5 great-grandchildren.
