January 4, 1943 — October 17, 2016

SERVICE INFORMATION: There will be an opening prayer by Pastor Jim Masters at 11 am and music by the "Cheap Sunglasses from noon to 2:30 with lunch, food venders, car show, meet and greet, slideshow and free admission to the Gold King Mine. At 2:30 engines will be revved for Don and Terry followed by a parade and a closing of "Amazing Grace." "Saturday is Don's big Memorial," explained Leffew. There was a small memorial at the time of death but now his family is coming and all his old friends have been invited to bring their old equipment and camp and stay. "Kind of a handing of the baton I think too, remembering them, but letting everybody know the place is going to go forward. It's always going to be what they wanted to be." "People love this place. It will never be the same without Don, but all things go on." The family and staff will continue to improve on Don's dream, Leffew promised. Donald E. Robertson, 73 of Jerome, passed away on October 17, 2016. He was born on January 4, 1943 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa to Henry E. Robertson and Marilyn Pitzer. Don attended Mt. Pleasant High School, then joined the Army Reserves. There he worked as a master mechanic, and later went on to create the tourist attraction The Gold King Mine in Jerome. Don loved antique trucks, motors, cars, motorcycles, racing and a passion for vintage transportation. He was proud of his establishment. Don was preceded in death by his wife Terry Ann Robertson, mother Marilyn Pitzer and brother Tom Robertson. He is survived by son Dale Robertson of Young, AZ; daughters Angie Wagner of Chandler, Jeannie Leffew of Flagstaff and Anna Cole of Cottonwood; brother Tony Pitzer (Monica) of Apache Junction; sister Bonnie Keeton (Gary) of Iowa; 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Due to the numerous people that will be coming from near and far, a memorial Celebration of Life will be held possibly in April, allowing extensive timing and planning to be done. Further details will be posted in future notices. At this present time, a memorial site is set up in the parking lot of the Gold King Mine with one of Don's trucks. To get to the Gold King Mine, drive past the fire department in Jerome and drive of a mile on Perkinsville Road. The Gold King Mine is located at 1000 Perkinsville Road. If you have any questions, please call the Gold King Mine at 928-634-0053. A memorial tribute can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLFfi7EX7Po&feature=youtu.be
