Dennis R. Vogler

February 8, 1939 — December 9, 2022

Dennis R. Vogler, 83, of Cottonwood, passed away December 9, 2022.

He was born February 8, 1939 in Jasper, Indiana, the son of Edward A. and Eleanora C. (Pfaff) Vogler. He attended Jasper High School and Sheridan Community College.

He served four years in the Army.

Mr. Vogler worked as an engineer and safety officer and went on to be Manager of Operations at Industrial Plating and Grinding in Sheridan , Wyoming.

Dennis Vogler was a strong and proud man who raised his family to be helpful and patriotic. He never spoke an unkind word about anyone, and he loved his country and his church with passion. It was important to him that young people understand the value of living in a free country, the United States of America, the greatest nation on earth. Dennis loved talking to people, and if he could offer knowledge or advice to help them on their journey, he was always willing to help. Helping people was one of Dennis’ great joys in life, and no matter where he worked or what he was involved in, he always left it better than when he found it.

Dennis had many passions but none more so than racing - which he loved to watch and participate in any chance he got. He loved cars, trucks, and true craftsmanship. Dennis was also an avid photographer, taking pictures of nature, places he visited, family, and friends. He liked woodworking and had a talent for taking what he had lying around and making things. Dennis enjoyed a variety of music, gardening with his wife, Florence, and taking care of his home.

Dennis never complained; he just kept moving forward. He went to church and always worked to serve our Lord. To him, our Lord was everywhere in everything he did. Dennis loved his family, and he loved his friends. He loved traveling and seeing his country and was always willing and able to defend her.

Dennis was extremely curious and never stopped trying to figure out complicated problems or issues. He always ran towards the flames to help others; he was not the type of person to retreat. If you just wanted to talk or needed someone to listen to you, no matter what it was, Dennis was always willing, especially with a cup of coffee.

Dennis is very loved and will be greatly missed. He will live on through our stories and memories of him and through all the lives that he has touched.

He was a member of Toastmasters, the National Rifle Association, Heritage Foundation Unbound, and enjoyed antique cars and his Jeep Willy.

He was a devoted member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and served as a Porter and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Vogler was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Susan Marie Vogler; and a brother, James L. (and late wife Linda) Vogler.

He is survived by his wife, Florence of 61 years and 10 months. He leaves sons Mark D. (Natalie) Vogler of Fortville, Indiana, Patrick A. (Debbie) Vogler of Hudson, Wisconsin, and Richard J. (Laura) Vogler of Crawfordsville, Indiana; daughters Sharon A. (Richard) Oswald of Fallon, Nevada,  Deborah Vogler of Cottonwood; brothers, Robert (Dottie) Vogler of Jasper, Indiana, Tom (Mary Beth) Vogler of Ireland, Indiana, Bernie (Donna Rae) Vogler of Jasper, Indiana, David (Phyllis) of Jasper, Indiana, Mike (Linda) Vogler of Celestine, Indiana, Ron (Cindy) Vogler of Jasper, Indiana, and Allen (Jane) Vogler of Jasper, Indiana; sisters, Joan (late husband Marty) of Vincennes, Indiana, Mary Ann (late husband Robert) of Mesa, Arizona and Donna (Rich) Werner of Jasper, Indiana, 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
