Beverly A. Black

July 6, 1936 — December 12, 2015

On December 12, 2015 Beverly Ann Black went to be with her Lord and Savior. Beverly was born in Topeka, Kansas on July 6, 1936. She lived there until 1950 when she, with her parents and brother, moved to San Dimas, CA. She graduated high school there and went 1 year to Mt SAC College, where she was a member of Delta Chi Omega Sorority. In 1956, again with her family, she moved to Flagstaff, AZ. It was there she met Rusty on a blind date and were married on July 4, 1957 in Las Vegas. They were members of Mt. View Baptist Church in Flagstaff, where she served as a deaconess for several years. For health reasons they moved to Cottonwood in 2005 and later joined the Verde Baptist Church. Beverly worked as a telephone operator from 1956 to 1959, when she quit to have their first child. Then in 1976 she went to work at the Lone Pine Restaurant in Munds Park as a waitress and retired in 1989. In 1991 she went to work for H&R Block as a receptionist and worked there 4 more years. She worked with a 4-H group in 1969 and was a volunteer teacher's aide for a couple years at Marshall School in Flagstaff. She was also PTA Vice President at Marshall in 1975. Beverly loved her family and friends, enjoyed cooking, craft projects, puzzles, sewing (made both her daughter's wedding gowns) and a quilt for each family member. She enjoyed helping and doing for others and her relationship with God made her life complete. Her sense of humor stayed with her until the end. Nothing brought her more pleasure than helping others or making someone laugh. Beverly is survived by 2 daughters; Tammy (Del) Dixon of Flagstaff and Barbara Moore of Cottonwood; 2 grandsons Greg Holm of Rimrock and Austin Moore of Cottonwood; step-granddaughter Melissa Pennington and step-grandson Josh Dixon both of Flagstaff and 2 great-granddaughters. Preceding her in death were both parents, Leonard and Vada Short from Sedona and Idaho; a brother Gary Short also of Idaho; a 2 year old son Eddie; and Rusty her husband of 58 years. Services will be at Verde Baptist Church, 102 S. Willard in Cottonwood on January 16, 2016 at 11:00am. At her request, instead of flowers, a donation to Kids Against Hunger, P.O. Box 371, Cottonwood, AZ 86326 or Cottonwood Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 681, Cottonwood, AZ 86326. Our thanks and much gratitude we give to Hospice of the Pines for the wonderful and loving care they gave to our mother. And a special thanks to Tami Richards, Kristine Hanson and Jonathan King of Hospice. An online guestbook is available to sign at www.westcottfuneralhome.com
