Bettie Mae Bundy

May 17, 1930 — May 10, 2012

Bettie Mae Bundy, 81, of Cottonwood, Arizona, passed away peacefully, though unexpectedly, in her sleep on May 10th. Born Bettie Mae Umbaugh in South Bend, Indiana on May 17, 1930, Bettie moved to Phoenix in 1946, where she later married John Wendell Basham. She and Wendell raised two children, Tana Marie (Basham-Hobart) of Big Rapids, Michigan and Gari Alan Basham of Cottonwood, Arizona, until Wendell's death in January of 1962. Bettie later married Dale Edward Bundy, originally of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and became stepmother to Dale's two children - David Lester Bundy of Prescott Valley, AZ and Dayna Luann (Graser) of Tempe, AZ. They spent the next 44 years in Phoenix, Glendale and Mohave Valley, Arizona. Following Dale's death in 2006, Bettie resided in Cottonwood, Arizona with Yoshio Takeoka, the third love of her life, until her recent death. Throughout her life, it was she who unselfishly took care of all relatives and friends who needed emotional or physical care. She and Dale were even known to mortgage their home to loan money to family and friends when they were in need. She was loved by all who knew her, for she had a kind heart, a mothering instinct, and a generous nature. Her charitable work and gifts were extensive in every community in which she lived. She is survived by her 2 children, her 2 stepchildren, 6 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and her brother, Arthur Lee Umbaugh of Page, Arizona. There will be a private family celebration of Bettie's life held at her son's home at a date yet to be announced. Friends are asked to write an anecdote or story about some part of their lives with Bettie, to be read at the ceremony. These can be forwarded to Gari Basham at 1802 S. Star View Circle, Cottonwood, Arizona 86326.
