Tom Hall

May 11, 1933 — April 15, 2016

Tom Hall, 82 of Cottonwood, passed away on April 15, 2016. He was born in Oregon in May of 1933. He is survived by his wife Marcia of 57 years; six children, 14 grandchildren and 3 Rottweilers: Holly, Jacob and Jamie. Tom attended James Lick High School in San Jose, CA, winning the school\u0027s first MVP award. He attended Cal Poly for 2 years placing 3rd in the PCI. Tom Joined the Army and placed 4th and 1st Greco Roman at the National AAU Championships. He was 5-0 at the 1956 Olympic Trials, placing 4th. Tom returned to Cal Poly where he was undefeated for two years. He was the PCI champion in 1958 and won the Outstanding Wrestler Award on the Cal Poly Championship Team. 1958, Tom was inducted into the Cal Poly Hall of Fame as one of the Charter members (1990). He graduated in Physical Education. Tom met Marsha at Cal Poly and stayed in San Luis Obispo; teaching at San Luis Unified School District, coached wrestling and little league and taught "driver training" behind the wheel. Many called Tom "The Bear". He liked that subject the most as the students wanted to learn. He was known to take a student back to the parking lot and told them not to return until they listened. Also no gum chewing and to dress appropriately. Tom and Marcia then moved to Templeton, CA on 10 acres of land to raise beef, pigs and sheep for their six children to show at the Paso Robles Fair. Tom and Marcia moved to Cottonwood 22 years ago to enjoy raising Rottweilers, a large orchard and a garden. Tom drove cars around Arizona for a local car dealer. As Tom himself indicated having his children and grandchildren by his bedside was the only memorial he desired. His ashes will be spread at a later date.
