Paul Nonnast

March 16, 1948 — November 12, 2005

Paul Nonnast passed away on Friday, November 4th at home in Jerome after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born in Philadelphia in 1948, Paul emigrated to British Columbia, Canada a year after his parents in 1968, where he finished his education and graduated from the Vancouver School of Art. He received 2 major Canada Council of the Arts Awards for his sculpture, and was one of four honorable mentions in the prestigious Vietnam War Memorial Design Competition, sponsored in Washington, D.C.in 1981. His inclanation towards art and design was to become a way of life. In 1976 Paul came to Arizona and found Arcosanti. Paolo Soleri commissioned Paul to refine and cast in bronze a bridge concept which is now on permanent exhibition at the Cosanti Foundation. The alternative methods of building aquired at Arcosanti became a starting block in Paul\u0027s own creation of a home, \u0027House on the Edge of Time\u0027. More refined, the design and construcion of his 2nd home, also in Jerome, lead to various commissions to design homes and studios in Sedona, Yarnell, Jerome, Tucson and most recently Taos. Around Jerome his architecture and engineering can be seen in the Holly Street wall and private residencies. Paul was also contracted for design origination and prototype development of electronic and scientific instrumentation for corporations. Paul shared his love of life and the environment with his wife, ML Lincoln. They explored, hiked and biked extensively throughout the Southwest and Mexico. Paul a sunrise cyclist, one of the regulars to scale Mingus Mountain before breakfast, is on a new journey, and will be missed dearly by his mother and step father, Marie and Jim Bohlen, his step sister, Margot Bohlen., step brother Lance Bohlen, god son, Cole Watta and dear wife, ML and two dogs Santos and Luna. Paul had a special affinity for animals, in lue of flowers, any contributions can be made to the Jerome Humane Society, Box 807, Jerome AZ 86331.
