Melody Winters

March 23, 1947 — March 4, 2012

Melody Winters, 64, of Cottonwood. Melody, born Michelle Francine Winters, arrived on God\u0027s earth March 23rd, 1947. She was the second child of Arthur Winters and Rita Tishman Winters. Born in New York, she was raised in Los Angeles. She married Sherman Dunham in the 70s and raised one daughter. During the 90s, she followed the sun and her music spirit to Sedona, then Cottonwood, Arizona where she creatively lived out the remainder of her years. Her life was cut short by a traffic accident on Sunday, March 4th, 2012. She is survived by her daughter, Stefanie Walter, and son-in-law, Steve; a brother, Harvey Winters; a nephew, nieces, grand-nephews and many close musician friends and neighbors. By her request, there will be no funeral service. Her musician friends held an "Empty Chair Wake" in honor of their missing companion. It was her wish to have her remains scattered at the ocean, which will be fulfilled by the immediate family in private. Music, composing, singing and her guitars were her constant joyful companions from her high school days on. Melody enjoyed jewelry making and was creative in a multitude of ways. "Words can change the world. Music can change the world. It touches souls, not just minds. But in my mind, Music is the magic that transforms souls. - Melody Winters (shared by June Crawford Sanders). Melody was loved more than she knew, and the music of her soul is missed by us all."
