Dorothy Carlson

February 3, 1930 — July 25, 2006

Dorothy Carlson, 76, resident of Cottonwood, AZ, passed away at her home on Tuesday, July 25, 2006. She was born in Mendota, Illinois on February 3, 1930 to George and Alice (Sandberger) Wilhelm. Dorothy always possessed good work ethics; while in High School she had a job of de-tussling corn. Following High School, she attended the Lutheran School of Nursing in Moline, Illinois and achieved her Register Nursing Degree,-after which, she worked at the Old Marcus T. Lawrence Hospital. After her marriage to Warren Carlson, they moved to Arizona in 1958, where she and her husband built their own home in Prescott in 1959. It was in 1962 that they relocated to Cottonwood and made their home near the Verde River. Dorothy loved the waterfront and referred to it as "her park". Dorothy was a natural leader and organizer, and she also enjoyed politics; as a result of such, she was always active in her community. She was involved in the leadership of the Organic Garden Club and she was a Girl Scout leader, as well as a 4-H Leader. In addition, she was also a part of VASA, and the Verde Valley Breakfast Club. Dorothy was always active doing something. She enjoyed picnics, hiking in the woods, and going for rides in the mountains. Dorothy liked to study the stars and even took some classes regarding such. She loved to read and study the Bible, and she enjoyed her sister Joyce, and the time they spent talking together. Dorothy even enjoyed weeding the garden. There is no doubt that she will be remembered for her dry sense of humor, her good nature towards people, and her positive outlook on life. Dorothy leaves behind her husband of 54 years, Warren Carlson of Cottonwood; her son, Stan Carlson, with his wife Gail; her daughter, Nina Maxon, with her husband Michael, all of Renton, Washington; her brother, Robert Wilhelm of Mendota, Illinois; and her sister, Joyce Shaw, with her husband Loren of Markesan, Wisconsin. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, July 31, 2006 at 10:00am at Westcott Funeral Home, 1013 E. Mingus Ave., in Cottonwood, Arizona. An online guestbook is available at www.westcottfuneralhome.com
