Chris Starr

Chris M. Starr of Cottonwood passed away on June 21, 2015 at the age of 68. Chris was born in Hanford, CA to Art and Alma Starr on November 5, 1946. After graduating high school, Chris joined the military, serving his country overseas in Vietnam in the U.S. Army. During his service time, Chris was a combat sergeant and a construction engineer specialist and 12B40 CBT Engineer. He was recognized for ATP 21-114, code of conduct, CBR training, Geneva Convention, counter guerilla warfare and his expert M14 marksmanship. He was awarded a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star and a Medal of Honor, along with his National Defense Service Medal, his Vietnam Service Medal, his Vietnam Campaign Medal, his Meritorious Unit Commendation and six overseas bars. After his military service, Chris went on to own and operate his own radiator repair shop for 40 years. He was a collector of antiques, guns and knives; a lover of the outdoors or anything that presented a challenge and he loved his Lhasa Apso, Chloe. Chris was a beloved husband, father and Papa; and an honorable man. Chris is survived by his wife of 26 years, Patty Starr; his son Travis Barnes; his daughter, Amy Barnes; his mother, Alma Starr, all of AZ and 4 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held for Chris at the VFW Post 7400, located at 705 E. Aspen St., Cottonwood, AZ 86326 on Saturday, July 18 at 5:00 P.M., with a potluck to follow.
